Partir à la recherche de thés rares dans le monde

Set out in search of rare teas around the world

There are teas that you won't find on supermarket shelves. Teas grown on mountainsides, hand-picked only once a year, produced in such limited quantities that they become true treasures. At Cap sur le thé, we set out to find them.

The Yunnan Highlands, China

Yunnan is the birthplace of the wild tea plant. Up there, at an altitude of over 1,500 meters, grow century-old trees whose leaves give rise to the finest pu-erh and exceptional Mao Feng. Our Mao Feng: Hua Hai was born from these ancestral lands — a golden liquor with floral and honey notes, of a rare sweetness.

The High-Altitude Gardens of Nepal and India

In the foothills of the Himalayas, the tea gardens benefit from a permanent mist and a temperature range that concentrates the aromas. Our Himalayan FTGFOP1 Orange Hill 1st Flush is the perfect illustration: a spring first harvest with muscat and floral notes, produced in a confidential quantity.

Tanzania, a little-known terroir

Few people think of East Africa when it comes to exceptional tea. And yet, the Usambara mountains in Tanzania produce oolongs of surprising complexity. Our Tanzania Usambara Oolong is a discovery for curious palates — woody, slightly fruity, with a remarkable length on the palate.

Japan, precision at its purest

In Japan, tea cultivation is a philosophy. Genmaicha, a blend of green tea and roasted puffed rice, is an institution. Our Japan Genmaicha embodies this tradition: a comforting cup, with notes of hazelnut and fresh greenery, that invites you to take a break.

Why are these teas so rare?

The rarity of a tea depends on several factors:

  • Altitude: the higher the garden, the slower the growth and the more concentrated the aromas.
  • Seasonality: some harvests only take place once a year, for just a few days.
  • Know-how: processing techniques passed down from generation to generation.
  • Quantity: productions sometimes less than a few dozen kilos per year.

At Cap sur le thé, we carefully select each reference, prioritizing traceability and authenticity. Each cup is an invitation to travel.
